Ambroise is a Citroen Acadiane, built and first registered in 1985.
The Acadiane is very closely related to the much-loved 2CV, first launched in 1948 and then as a van in 1951. The 2CV van went through several incarnations, and then Citroen launched the Dyane in 1967 – a sort of luxury version of the 2CV. The Acadiane is a merging of the two – the front end of a Dyane, with a van body very similar to that of the 2CV van. It’s slightly longer than a 2CV van, and has a slightly higher load capacity but many of the parts are completely interchangeable. It has the same 2 cylinder engine as later model 2CVs.
The name – Acadiane – is a bit of a pun. The 2CV vans were known as AKs and the French pronunciation of “AK Dyane” comes out much the same as “Acadiane”.
Acadianes were built from 1977 to 1987 and never officially imported to the UK. They were available in left hand drive only.
